“ Wilkinson.... just needs a little luck to get the recognition he really deserves as a singer-songwriter in the same class as John Gorka and Cliff Eberhardt. He writes stunning lyrics....And the fit-like-glove production......blends jazz, blues, soul and folk ... Stephen Israel-The Times Herald-Record
..... earthy, folky, sensitive and rootsy music that puts you in a certain frame of mind.....Jeff Wilkinson is an excellent songwriter, with a talent for being able to pen thoughtful and provocative lyrics. ....Most importantly, Wilkinson’s music puts pictures in your head.” Northeast Performer The Independent Musicians’ Resource Guide (Album-Just Luck)
PRESS RELEASE JEFF WILKINSON & THE SHUTTERDOGS
Hudson Valley songwriter Jeff Wilkinson teams up with award-winning fiddler Sara Milonovich and talented multi-instrumentalist Greg Anderson for an evening of modern folk music layered with bluegrass, blues, and traditional fiddle tunes. Wilkinson writes rootsy, literate ballads of poetic realism about people and their places in life. Several of his songs are now part of the Smithsonian Folkways collection. He plays both mandolin and guitar and is the group’s main songwriter. Sara Milonovich is a gifted fiddle player and vocalist. She brings a lively and spontaneous energy to traditional music and delivers innovating renditions of classic country songs. Greg Anderson has gained an international reputation both as a producer and much sought after accompanist. The trio has toured throughout Europe as well as the East Coast and will be performing songs from their latest CD “Edsel’s Retreat”. Though based in Beacon, NY the groups first meeting was actually in the Stamford area. “I will never forget the first time all three of us got together. It was quite magical. I believe it was the summer of 2002. It was on the front porch of my cabin in the Catskills. Sara had just come down from her family farm upstate and along with my long time friend and accomplice Greg Anderson who had been suggesting that we all three try and meet. As there is no electricity at “The Cabin” as we call it, we just played and sang old-timey style. The music just blended beautifully and I felt my songs had found a new home.”
Jeff Wilkinson has been playing music professionally since the 1980’s. His first album “Pitchin’ Pennies” was released in 1984 and received high praises both at home and abroad. The Detroit native began touring the Midwest and Northeast as a solo act eventually winding up in New York City where he became involved with the Greenwich Village Fast Folk Music scene. He performed at the now legendary Folk City and at the SpeakEasy. A brief tour in England and Europe in 1987 led to his meeting the owner of a record label in Switzerland who heard and liked his music. Since that time he has released four CD’s on the Brambus label. He has also produced two albums for the Vermont based Gadfly Records. He has made numerous tours throughout the U.S. and Europe and has shared the stage with many of folk music’s best-known names including Chris Smither, Jesse Winchester, Pete Seeger, Bill Morrissey, NRBQ, Peter Case, Gillian Welch and Robert Earl Keene. He has played in such noted rooms as Nashville’s Bluebird Café and New York’s Bottom Line and has co-written songs with such notables as Fred Koller and Leroy Preston.
